Christmas Countdown: Leeds German Market Review

My absolute favourite thing to do this time of year is drink mulled wine and spend time with friends and family.

You can do both at the Leeds Christkindle Market. There are several of these around the country and of course they started out in Germany. I have only had the joy of sampling the Leeds one, and let me tell you- it is lovely.

Without being cliche- there really is something for everyone.

The children

There are some rides, which cost around £2 each and are open from 11am-7/8pm. Hook-a-reindeer too if you are feeling adventurous.

The hungry ones

There is an array places to eat, such as the restaurant which has main courses from £7-11. Authentic German sausages for £4 are available at four different stands. My personal favourite is the cheese filled one; served in a crusty bread roll, I top mine with ketchup.

There is a pretzel stand, potato pancake shop, garlic bread stand, honey shop and several chocolatey and sweet treats to find.

The boozer

The whole place is filled with mead stalls, mulled wine bars, alcoholic hot chocolates and a huge tavern in the middle which has music nights throughout the weekend.

 The shopper

There’s also over twenty shops selling; jewellery, bags, hats, scarves, candles, ornaments, Christmas gifts, food, alcohol- alsorts of ideal presents for the upcoming festivities.

One lady makes her own earrings at the market:

And here is a stall with some interesting gifts:

As well as some beautiful real crystal candles and carvings:

You cannot go wrong, there is plenty for everyone and it is filled with festive songs to get you in the holiday spirit.

Merry Christmas Leeds.
